To be certified, you must be at least 18 years old on the first day of your course. This is the minimum age because people 18 and older are legally accountable for their actions and are likely to have experience as a driver.

Any certification granted will be revoked and course refunds will not be issued to individuals younger than 18. You will be eligible, however, to take the course again when you are at least 18 years old. Upon successfully completing all requirements, you will be certified.

If you are younger than 18 and still think you want to take the course, you may submit a written request using the Appeals Cover Page. You will find the appeals form on this website under Resources-FAQS/Forms.

All decisions by Safe Kids are final and may not be brought up for another appeal.

If you are under 18, we encourage you to support local CPS activities in other ways, including:

  • Taking an awareness course and answering questions at an exhibit table
  • Helping with a community event
  • Help with paperwork
  • Babysitting
  • Promoting events
  • Helping with mailings
  • Confirming appointments
  • Assisting in the course behind the scenes, such as setting up lunch or refreshments
