Technician Proxy

Technician Proxies can review and approve seat checks for recertification. This is not associated in any way with being a Senior Checker.  It is simply a way to fill a need in areas with few Certified Instructors. Once approved as a Technician Proxy, you will remain one until your CPS Certification expires.

Anyone who has been a Certified Technician for at least six months, or is an Instructor Candidate, may apply to be a Technician Proxy. When you are eligible to apply, you will see the action item "Apply to be A Technician Proxy" in your CPS Online Profile.

Once approved, your status will continue to be "Certified Technician" but you will see Extra Training: Technician Proxy in your Online Profile.

Application

There are two steps in the process to become an approved Technician Proxy:

  1. Submit a complete application
  2. Pay the $15 fee

The application is available under Resources then Forms. You must include two signed testimonials from two different Certified Instructors.

Each testimonial is to be completed following a Certified Instructor's (CPSTI's) observation as you conduct at least two real (not mock) seat checks. You will do a real seat check and evaluate another technician's technical and communication skills and provide feedback -- just like an instructor would review a seat check for skills verification. The CPSTI will use these observations to evaluate your readiness and ability to (1) provide suitable and appropriate feedback and (2) pass and fail seat checks appropriately. Since you are not an approved technician proxy during this review, the technician who is completing the seat check will enter the instructor's name online.

Details may be found in the application.

Refunds will not be provided, so be sure you are interested in applying to become a Proxy before paying the $15 fee.
